Paul Desmarais III

Paul Desmarais III (born 1981/1982)[1] is a Canadian businessperson. He is the son of Paul Desmarais Jr. and the grandson of Paul Desmarais.

Career

After working at Goldman Sachs, Imerys and Great-West Lifeco, Paul Desmarais III became Vice-President of Power Corporation of Canada and Power Financial Corporation in 2014.[2][3] In January 2017, he was named Senior Vice President of both companies.[4]

He is Chairman and CEO of Sagard Holdings, the Executive Chairman and co-founder of Portag3 Ventures, and the Chairman and co-founder of Diagram.[5][6]

Desmarais is involved in financial technology[7][8][9][10], especially with Portag3,[11] a fund that aims to "find the next generation of Canadian financial technology entrepreneurs and help them build global companies".[12]

Desmarais holds a Bachelor of Science degree in economics from Harvard College and a Master of Business Administration degree from INSEAD.[13]

He is the Founder and Honorary President of Young Canadians in Finance, an organization that aims to "build a more competitive Canadian financial system".[19]

He is a board member of The Next Canada[20], a national, non-profit organization that develops exceptional talent to build world-class ventures and propel technology adoption, and the Rideau Hall Foundation.[21]

He was also the Chair of the Kenojuak Cultural Centre and Print Shop campaign, as well as co-chair of the Arctic Expedition to the North Magnetic Pole, organized in 2014 by the True Patriot Love Foundation.[22]

Honours

In 2019, he was the recipient of the Arnold Edinborough Award (Business / Arts Awards)[23] recognizing his impact on the arts in Canada.

Desmarais is an honouree of Canada's 2017 Top 40 Under 40 Awards.[24]

In 2000, he was awarded the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (Gold Level).[25]

He was recognized and honored as a talented and experienced MBA holder at the 2019 MBA Gala[26].
