Party for the Future

The Party for the Future (Dutch: Partij voor de Toekomst) is a Dutch political party. It is currently active in the House of Representatives as the Group Krol (Dutch: Groep Krol).

Besides a seat in the House of Representatives, the party has two seats in the Senate, one seat in the European Parliament, two seats in the States of Overijssel, two seats in the States of South Holland, one seat in the States of Flevoland, and one seat in the States of North Holland.[1][2][7] It also has a seat in the municipal councils of The Hague and Woerden.[8][9] The party intends to take part in the next Dutch general election, scheduled for 17 March 2021.[4]

History

The Party for the Future made its beginning as the Group Krol/Van Kooten-Arissen (Dutch: Groep Krol/Van Kooten-Arissen) in the House of Representatives. It was a parliamentary group that was formed on 6 May 2020 by Henk Krol (who had left 50PLUS on 3 May 2020) and Femke Merel van Kooten-Arissen (who had left the Party for the Animals on 16 July 2019).[10]

On 29 June 2020, it was announced that the Party for the Future was going to merge with Group Otten (GO), whose most prominent members were two members of the Senate who had previously left their party Forum for Democracy.[11]

On 5 August 2020, Van Kooten-Arissen announced that she had ended her cooperation with Krol. She said that she was left out of the decisions surrounding the merger and that she couldn't accept the situation that Henk Otten were to dictate the future policies of the party.[12]. Van Kooten-Arissen continues as an independent member of parliament.
