Panayiotis Vlamos

Panayiotis Vlamos is a Greek mathematician who studies mathematics, bioinformatics and neurodegeneration.[1][2][3] He is Professor of Mathematics and Head of the Department of Informatics, Ionian University.[4] He is also heading the Bioinformatics and Human Electrophysiology Laboratory (BiHELab).[5]

Biographical information

He completed his undergraduate studies at the Department of Mathematics of Mathematics of the University of Athens and obtained his PhD degree in Mathematics from the Department of Mathematics of National Technical University of Athens, Greece.[6]

Awards and scholarships

Awards at the National Mathematical Competitions from The National Mathematical Society (1984-1987).

Participation in the 26th (1986) and the 27th (1987) International Mathematical Olympiad.

Scholarships from the State Scholarships Foundation (IKY) (1989 & 1990).[7]

Scholarship from the Bodossaki Foundation for Postgraduate Studies for two years (1991-1992).[8]

Scholarship from the National Technical University of Athens (1993-1996).

GREEN DREAMS 2009 Award of the Entrepreneurship Club (together with M.Avranitis and M.Allonitis.

Award for Research Offer in Bioinformatics, 5th International Mathematical Week, Greek Mathematical Society, 2013.

Best Oral Presentation in the 26th National Hematology Conference of the Greek Society of Hematology, with a title “Unique and common immunogenic signs in lymphoproliferative syndromes of marginal zone: Ontogenetic extensions”, 2015

Research

His research interests focus on protocols for the early diagnosis of neurogenerative diseases associated with mitochondrial dysfunctions. They also include mathematical modeling in Bioinformatics, algorithms on Neuroinformatics, Neuroeducation and physical- chemical engineering problems.

He has (co-) authored more than 150 papers in international journals, conferences and book chapters.[9] He is also (co-) author of more than 16 educational books.[10] He has been the principal researcher or a member of many research projects on Mathematical Modeling and Simulation.
