Overview

Our Lady of the Wayside is a Catholic Parish based in Mount Pleasant in the city of Harare. The Parish is Entrusted to the Jesuits. The land for the church and money for the building were donated by Mr and Mrs Bitchell. Mr Tom Bitchell unfortunately went blind before completion of the church.[2] Mass was first held in the church at Christmas Midnight Mass in 1959 by Archbishop Francis Markall S.J

Parish Ministry

St Johns Avondale (Emarald Hill)

Our Lady of the Wayside also serves St Johns Avondale in the grounds of St Johns High School in Emarald Hill. This sub parish serves Emerald Hill, Avondale West, Ashbrittle, Avonlea and parts of Greencroft

Mass centers are Christon Bank and Emerald Hill Children's Home. The Parish church serves Mount Pleasant, Alexandra Park , Arundel, Mount Pleasant Park, Gunhilll, Northwood, Mount Pleasant Heights, Vainona and a large portion of Avondale.

Our Lady of the Wayside also serves Arrupe Jesuit University which is 650m away from the church as well as the University of Zimbabwe
