History

In the 1870s and early 1880s, civic meetings in Motherwell were held the Victoria Theatre in Watson Street.[2] The new building, which was designed by John Bennie Wilson in the Queen Anne style, was completed in 1887.[1] The building was the headquarters of the Burgh of Motherwell and Wishaw Council until it moved to Motherwell Civic Centre in 1970.[3] It was subsequently converted into a leisure centre and is now known as "the Zone".[4]
