Millaroo, Queensland

Millaroo is a small town and locality in the Shire of Burdekin in Queensland, Australia.[3][4]

Geography

The place is located about 100 km south-east of Townsville, ca. 50 km inland from the Coral Sea. It is a sugarcane growing area with underground water supplies to irrigate crops.

History

The name Millaroo comes from Millaroo Creek, which in turn was recorded by surveyor Robert Abbott in 1895.[3]

Millaroo Post Office opened on 1 July 1955 and closed in 1972.[5]

At the 2011 census, Millaroo had a population of 200.[1]

Education

Millaroo State School caters for Prep-Year 6 students and is located 70 kilometres South-West of Ayr, North Queensland.[6] The school services the rural townships of Millaroo and Dalbeg and the surrounding areas. The school opened on 19 July 1954.[7]
