The station was opened on 27 September 2005 and its current form dates to 2007. It has two platforms and a siding. It should not be confused with the now closed station on the metre gauge SPAP Piraeus–Patras railway, which is located inside the city of Megara itself.

As of 2013 the station is on the line between Kiato and the Athens International Airport and served by one train per hour in both directions.[2]
