Mavelikara Orthodox Diocese

Mavelikkara Diocese is one of the 30 dioceses of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church. The diocese was created on 10 August 2002. Now, this diocese is in the direct rule of Malankara Metropolitan. The head office is located in TheoBhavan Aramana, Thazhakkara, Mavelikkara.[1]

History

This diocese was founded in 2002 August 10. It was inaugurated in the presence of Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews II, former Catholicos of the East. H.G. Paulos Mar Pachomios was the first Metropolitan. Forty parishes and twelve chapels of the dioceses of Kollam, Niranam and Chengannoor, and the erstwhile 39 parishes here were annexed to the newly introduced one. The diocese was formed with forty parishes and twelve chapels of the Kollam, Niranam, Chengannur diocese. The headquarters of diocese was consecrated by Baselios Mar Thoma Didymos I in 2008. But in 2012 August 1, Paulos Mar Pachomios passed away and Baselios Mar Thoma Paulose II, Malankara Metropolitan took the rule and assisted by Alexios Mar Eusebius.[1]

Now

Now, the diocese is reigns by Malankara Metropolitan. There are forty one churches and nine chapels and fifty priests in diocese. Rev.Fr. Ebey Philip is the current diocesean secretary. Rev.Fr.D.Geevarghese, Rev.Fr.Ninan Oommen, Sri.Anil.K.John, Sri.Mathew.G.Manoj, Sri.Rajan Thekkevila and Sri.Saji.P.Mathew are the council members of diocese. The office secretary and accountant of head office is Rev.Fr.Denice Samuel and Sri. John Cherian respectively. Paulose Mar Pachomios Shalem Bhavan is an institution under diocese situated in Arunoottimangalam and it give rehabilitation to sixty male mental retarded patients. Rev.Fr.Thomas P John serves as its director.[1] Cheppad Mar Dionysious Old Age Home situated at Cheppad and St Thomas Balabhavan at Haripad are other charitable institutions under the diocese.
