Massasoit Police

The Massasoit Community College Police Department was established in 1966 at Massasoit Community College in Brockton, Massachusetts, United States. The Massasoit Police Department primarily derives its law enforcement authority from Massachusetts General Laws, Chapter 73, Section 18 (Board of Trustees & Board of Higher Education) and Chapter 15A, Section 22 as granted by the Commonwealth's legislative branch. This is similar to a board of selectmen appointing municipal police officers. However, the administration chooses to instead appoint officers as special state police officers under Massachusetts General Law Chapter 22C, section 63, a law reserved for private education institutions. It entered the millennium under Chief Alfred Shaw in who established new training standards, policies, procedures, and hiring standards in 1999. In addition, the department became armed and established an accreditation program. The Massasoit Community College Police Department performs a full range of law enforcement duties and community services expected in an urban campus environment.

The Massasoit Community College Police Department provides police services across three of its campuses – Brockton, Canton, and Middleboro. The department consists of one chief, one captain, three sergeants, and ten patrolmen. It operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
