Lorne Parish is defined in the Territorial Division Act[2] as being bounded:

Northeasterly and northerly by Northumberland and Restigouche Counties; south by Gordon Parish; and northwesterly by the prolongation to the county of Restigouche of the line forming the northwesterly boundary of Gordon Parish, which runs a course north forty-five degrees east from the point on the Royal Road[lower-alpha 2] eight miles north of the Tobique River.

Notes

  1. Civil parishes served a variety of government functions until 1966, when the new Municipalities Act stripped them of their responsibilities; they continue to provide convenient boundaries for government uses, especially electoral districts and local service districts. Statistics Canada uses civil parishes as census subdivisions for all parts of the province that are not within municipalities and similar entities.
  2. The Royal Road does not appear on provincial highway maps but does appear on cadastral land grant maps.
