Land border crossings of Pakistan
This is a list of the land border crossings of Pakistan with its neighbours.
Afghanistan
Road
There are eight official border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan.[1]
- Arandu, on the road between Chitral and Jalalabad[2]
- Nawa Pass, between Asadabad and Peshawar
- Torkham, on the main road connecting Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Kabul
- Ghulam Khan, on the road between Miramshah and Khost
- Grusal, on the road between Mohmand District and Nangarhar Province[3]
- Angur Ada, on the road between Wana and Ghazni
- Chaman, on the road connecting Quetta, Balochistan and Kandahar.
- Kharlachi, On 12 July 2020 Pakistan announced reopening of kharlachi border crossing with afghanistan.[4]
Other minor crossings
- Tari Mangal, in the Kurram District on the road between Parachinar and Gardez
- Alizai, in the Lower Kurram Subdivision on the road to Khost
There are also numerous of unofficial and illegal crossings used by locals, smugglers and terrorists however the Pakistani government is trying to stop cross-border infiltration by construction of the Afghanistan–Pakistan barrier.
Rail
There are currently no operational railway crossings between Pakistan and Afghanistan. The Khyber Pass Railway wich connects Pakistan with Afghanistan was suspended due to security problems and the 2006 monsoon season rains in the Khyber Pass washed away significant sections of the railway. The track as of today is closed for all type's of railway traffic.
On june 2019 Pakistan minister for railway Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad said that Pakistan Railways was planning to lay railway track from Peshawar to Jalalabad. Durning talking to media persons he also said pakistan railways was also planning to lay railway track from Chaman to Qandahar which would connect Pakistan and Afghanistan and boost business activities.[5]
China
Road
- The only crossing to China is on the Karakoram Highway north of Sost at the Khunjerab Pass.
Rail
- There is a proposed Khunjerab Railway crossing between Pakistan and China.
India
Road
- Wagah / Attari, the only fully-fledged international road crossing
- Ganda Singh Wala border, Kasur District (Pakistan side) / Hussainiwala border, Punjab (India side)
- Sulemanki Punjab (Pakistan side) / Fazilka border, Okara District (India side)
- Longewala' closed.
- Chilliana / Teetwal, on the road between Muzaffarabad and Baramulla.
- Chakothi / Salamabad, located on the road between Chakothi and Uri.
- Tatrinote / Chakan Da Bagh, connects Kotli to the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.
- Recently there have been discussions on opening the border at Kartarpur for pilgrims travelling from India to the Gurdwara Darbar Sahib Kartarpur shrine.[6]
- Two further crossings are at Haji Pir pass and one near Tattapani, but these are currently not operational.[7]
There are also five crossings on the Line of Control in Kashmir, two of which are currently closed:
Rail
- Wagah / Attari, the Samjhauta Express between Lahore and Amritsar/Delhi crosses here.
- Munabao / Khokhrapar, the Thar Express between Karachi and Jodhpur crosses here.
