As of 2001 India census,[1] Kudavasal had a population of 13,500. Males constitute 49% of the population and females 51%. Kodavasal has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 78%, and female literacy is 66%. Located at the heart of the Cauvery delta, Kodavasal was a prominent settlement during medieval times. This is one of the places made home by Brahmin scholars who migrated from the north to the Chola kingdom. One can find several Shaivite temples here including Koneswarar Temple and Vaishnavite temples here including the Srinivasa Perumal Temple and Varadharaja Perumal temple at Kodavasal. Since independence the general trend of migration of the native population to cities like Chennai and elsewhere, and subsequent settlement of Muslim population has resulted in a dramatic shift in the demographics of the region.
