“ Jathedar Kishan singh started one of the most courageous and lionhearted movements that british ever witnessed in Punjab. Babbar akali movement started in 1921 in order to get freedom back, rose due to the injustice, corrupt and violently oppressive the british rule was towards the sikhs. Even after the silent protest by the sikhs were ignored and the same doing were martyred. It all led to the rose of the most feared, brave Babbar akali movement. ‘Babbar’ the word meaning lion. The government officials and the police officers would get so frightened by just their name that even they have slightest doubt that Babbars were coming after them, the wouldn’t leave their gaurded houses for days. Even the nightmare would continue to frighten them in their sleeps. That was such a brave and powerful were the Babbers that jathedar kishan singh started. The members of the Babbars were only recruited under certain conditions. They should obey the sikh baptism norms and should also keep in mind that while fighting for injustic there should be no harm done to children, women, elderly. The Babbars has their notion that,”they will not get caught by the britishers and even if they did caught them(Babbars), they will not caught them alive.” And Babbars did proved their notion time by time. The Babbars were small in number but despite of their living anonymously because of them the britishers were unable to have complete hold over the punjab for 4-5 years. The hurdles that Babbars gave cost them a lot. Imagine if the Babbars or even sikhs were across in India, India would have been independent far before 1945. Eventually, Sikhism contributed towards 90% towards the independence of India through struggles and martyrs and considering sikhs are just 2% in population across India. Even that sikhs weren’t given any credit but the history speaks itself and cannot be defamed. Even till today the spirits of Babbars still sparks within the sikhs.
