History

Kirov State Medical University began its history on April 2, 1987, when according to a decree of the Soviet Council of Ministers, Perm State Medical Institute opened a branch in Kirov.[1] The decision to open the branch was made after a working visit to Kirov by a government commission headed by the Minister of Health of the RSFSR A. I. Potapov and the rector of the Perm Medical Institute, E. A. Wagner. Thanks to the tremendous support of the First Secretary of the Kirov Regional Committee of the CPSU V.V. Bakatin and the head of the Kirov Regional Health Department G.F. Shulyatyev, the branch transferred a number of buildings to accommodate theoretical and biological departments, administrative and economic services.

Director of the Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion V. A. Zhuravlev, who in 1989 was appointed director of the branch by order of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation, was appointed acting director of the newly-minted university. The branch management, which at that time consisted of two people: director V. A. Zhuravlev and vice-rector S. L. Sharygin, managed to prepare the branch for the first academic year in three months. The first departments were formed, including the medical profile: normal anatomy (A.V. Kraev), biology with a course of histology (A.V. Molodyuk), bio-inorganic, biophysical chemistry with a course of biochemistry (P.I. Tsapok), children's diseases (Y. Yu. Illek), surgical diseases (V. A. Zhuravlev), internal diseases (E. V. Benenson), obstetrics and gynecology (S. A. Dvoryansky). Thanks to the support of the regional bureau of the CPSU and the regional executive committee of the city of Kirov, all non-resident teachers were provided with housing, which made it possible to quickly form the faculty of the first medical university of Vyatka.[1]

In 2011, the Academy received an unlimited license for the right to carry out educational activities.

At the end of 2011, the Kirov State Medical Academy became the first university in the city of Kirov, which received a certificate of conformity of the quality management system in relation to the development and provision of educational services under the programs of pre-university, higher, postgraduate professional education in accordance with the field of licensing and state accreditation.

In 2013, the first enrollment in the specialties “Clinical Psychology” and “Medical Biochemistry” was held at the Kirov State Medical Academy.

In 2015, the Academy once again confirmed the high quality of specialist training, becoming the Laureate of the All-Russian contest "100 Best Products of Russia" in the nomination "Education Services". In addition, based on consumer surveys conducted in all constituent entities of the Russian Federation, the Kirov State Medical Academy became the laureate of the contest “Best Higher Education Institutions of the Russian Federation 2015” and was awarded a diploma, and the rector, Professor I. V. Sheshunov, an Honorary Diploma for high professional training of students.[1]

In 2016, the university also became a laureate of the competition, in addition, according to the results of monitoring the quality of educational activities of universities conducted by the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation and the project “Social Navigator”, the Kirov State Medical Academy entered the Top 10 best universities in the country, taking place in the first rating lines.

The high achievements of the university, its recognition and authority were reflected in the main event of 2016 - on November 7, by the order of the Minister of Health of the Russian Federation Veronika Igorevna Skvortsova, the Kirov State Medical Academy was renamed into a university.
