Kevin Ryan (journalist)

Kevin Ryan (born February 23, 1988)[1] is an Irish-American journalist,[2][3] author,[4][5] and member of the White House press corps. ​​His stories are known for their literary nonfiction approach,[6] incorporating music,[7] philosophy,[8] poetry, and drugs to explain political situations and cultural figures.

He won The Emerging Writer award[9] and third-place in the book proposal with “Person Pitch,” which examines the intersection of Victorian-era religious poetry, Catalan Moderne architecture and the musical genius of Kanye West at the 2019 Mayborn Literary Nonfiction Conference. [10]

He makes regular appearances on Politics Politics Politics podcast with Justin Robert Young. [11][12][13]

Ryan has a graduate degree in journalism from University of North Texas.[14] He wrote his thesis on the ethical complications of comedic journalism, focusing on John Oliver. [15]

He began his literary nonfiction career by writing profiles on journalists Michael Graff[16][17] and Jason Fagone.[18]

He has written for Dallas Observer, [19] Jazz Journal, TheBlaze, Denton Record Chronicle, Artist Uprising,[20] and Mayborn Magazine. At Dallas Observer, he garnered attention for his review of a "Weird Al" Yankovic concert at in Dallas,[21] followed by a review of Shania Twain concert he attended while under the influence of LSD, as well as his review of a noise festival for which he recruited two strangers from Reddit on the condition that they knew nothing about noise music.[22]

Ryan, in 2017, began working at TheBlaze as a staff writer and contributor.[23] He writes radio monologues for Glenn Beck.[24][25][26] For his David series, he profiled a number of controversial figures, including Dave Rubin, Christina Hoff Sommers, Jordan Peterson,[27][28] Debra Soh, Stephen Hicks, and Carol Swain.

For the past year, Ryan has been following presidential candidates as part of his election series,[29][30][31][32] with profiles on Bernie Sanders, Kamala Harris, Donald Trump, and Andrew Yang, as well as cultural figures like Kanye West and Kobe Bryant, focusing on social issues not usually discussed in conservative media, particularly not from a center-left perspective.
