Kevin McGourty

Kevin McGourty is an Irish Gaelic footballer and Hurler who plays for Naomh Gall GLG, Queens University Belfast, University College Dublin, Antrim GAA, and Ulster.

He was educated at De La Salle Boys School Belfast, Queens University Belfast, University College Dublin, and Blackhall Place.

Following the successful completion of a Bachelor of Arts (Joint Honors) Modern History and Political Science at Queens he became involved in elected politics. Between 2004-2007 he became the first student ever to be elected to political office at Queens' University Belfast Students Union on 3 separate occasions. During this period he served as Vice Chairperson of the Council of University Sport Ireland (CUSAI), now known as Student Sport Ireland. He also served on the National Executive Committee of the British University Sports Association (BUSA), and on the Board of the European University Sports Association (EUSA). During this period he was appointed onto the Russell Group of Universities SU committee, and severed as Chairman of the Universities Academic Board. He also served on the 2007 Westminister Higher Education Committee review of Higher Education, representing Northern Ireland.[1]

In 2007 he was a member of the successful Sigerson Cup winning squad at QUB, being named Player of the Tournament. He was awarded full colours by the university for his Achievements.[2]

In 2010 he was part of the St Galls team that won the club's first All Ireland Club title.[3]

In 2011 he was Joint Captain of University College Dublin Sigerson Team in the competition's centenary year, whilst reading for a Postgraduate in Political Science. He was awarded an Elite Athlete Bursary by the University alongside Noel McGrath (Hurling, Tipperary) and future Irish Olympians, Claire Lambe (Rowing) and Arthur Lannigan O’Keeffe (pentathlon). He was awarded full colours by the university for his sporting achievements.[4]

In 2018 he was awarded a MOOC Certificate in Sports Law by the Law Society of Ireland[5]

At primary and secondary schools he was an accomplished Soccer player, and played on arguably the most successful schoolboy team ever between 1993-2000 at De La Salle College, winning 4 Northern Ireland Cup medals. He subsequently represented both Donegal Celtic and Carrick Rangers in the Irish Football League.

In 2018 it is widely believed alongside, Michalea Mc Collum, an injunction application to the High Court in Belfast against a Sunday Newspaper report to refute an accusation they were in a relationship after being captured in a Belfast nightclub was granted. In 2019 he was linked with Serbian Hotel Entrepreneur Anamarija Zaza Raickovic who leads the Minor Hotel groups in Asia.

He has previously been a columnist on sporting matters with Gaelic Life and County Antrim Post Newspapers.[6]

He is an Irish Republican with previous ties to the Fianna Fáil Party, and is an infrequent Blogger on the Wordpress site on Sport, Politics, and Legal Matters.[7][8][9][10][11]
