Early life

Kays Ruiz-Atil was born in Lyon[1] and grew up in the Gerland part of Lyon's 7th arrondissement[2] in a French and Moroccan family. His father, Radouan Atil, is from Morocco.[3]

Club career

Early career

Having first played for FC Gerland since he was 4 years old and the Olympique Lyonnais for a few months,[4] he first draw the attention of medias in 2009 when he was recruited by FC Barcelona at only 7 years old.[5]

But after the Barca transfer ban due to illegal signings of underage players,[6] he moved to PSG in 2015.[7]

But this move would later also prove to be controversial with the 2018 Football Leaks : there, the Parisian club was accused of having made an illegal transfer, with a suspicious employment of his father Radouan. This did not however lead to any legal procedure, the Paris Saint-Germain having seemingly received the approval of the international institutions.[8]

But before these controversies, Ruiz-Atil had signed a first "aspirant" contract with PSG in June 2017, locking his presence in the PSG youth academy.[9]

On the 31 August 2018 he signed his first professional contract with the club.[10] In the following seasons he played in the youth league, under the supervision of Thiago Motta for the 2018-19 season, whom he was quite close to.[3]

At this point, his public image does not seem to have suffered too much from the Football Leaks Kays Ruiz-Atil having for instance signed a big contract with Adidas.[3][10]

Paris Saint-Germain

On 12 July 2020, Ruiz-Atil played in a friendly match against Le Havre for the Paris Saint-Germain first team, a game that ended 0-9 for PSG.[11] He made another appearance on 17 July 2020 in a friendly against Waasland-Beveren that was won 7-0 by PSG.[12] This match was his first ever game at PSG’s home stadium, the Parc des Princes.[13]

International career

Born in France with Moroccan origins, he was regularly selected with Morocco youth team in Novembre 2016[14] and January 2017.[15]

He was also selected with the France U16 in August 2017.[16]
