Biography
Interested in Arte popular (people's art), Ramírez de Lucas was critic of art for reviews such as Arquitectura in Madrid, and critic of architecture for newspapers ABC (Madrid) and Arte y Cemento (Bilbao).[1]
He was, at 19, the partner of Federico García Lorca. The couple met in Madrid, during the Second Spanish Republic.[2] Lorca called him "El rubio de Albacete" (The blond from Albacete)[3].
Ramírez de Lucas was the last one[4] to receive a letter from the poet, on July 1936, before his assassination.[5] In fear of the fascist victory in Spain, the couple wanted to go away in Mexico. [6]
Legacy
The couple inspired the David Morales show at Carnegie Hall in 2015,[7] with Miguel Poveda as guest.[8]
