John W. Creighton Jr.

John W. Creighton Jr. (born September 1, 1932) is an American executive who has worked with many corporations, organizations, and universities. These include Weyerhaeuser Company, United Airlines, the University of Puget Sound, civilian aide to the Secretary of the Army, and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA).

Education

Creighton earned a B.S. from The Ohio State University in 1954, a LLB from Ohio State in 1957, and an MBA from the University of Miami. Creighton is also a certified public accountant.

Career

Creighton served as president and chief executive officer of Weyerhaeuser Company from 1988 through 1997.[1] He also served as the chairman and chief executive officer of UAL Corporation, parent company of United Airlines.[2]

Civic work

Creighton earned the Eagle Scout award of the BSA in 1946 and as an adult was recognized for outstanding career and civic work by the BSA with their Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. From about 1997 to 1998, he also served as the National president of the Boy Scouts of America. During this time he emphasized Scouting's traditional values and the need for the growth of the movement. Creighton said "Scouting has always reflected the expectations of the American family. That so many American parents have chosen to involve their children in Scouting is a powerful testament to Scouting's effectiveness in building character in American youth.".[3]

Personal

Creighton served in the United States Army,[4] is married, has 3 children, and 2 grandchildren. Creighton serves on the board of directors of Saltchuck Resources.
