On 27 January 1917, Van der Weg was the first female ever who finished the Elfstedentocht; the most prestigious speed skating race and tour over 200 km on natural ice in the Netherlands.[1] This was during the third edition of the tour. Jikke Gaastra was the first female in 1912 who ever started the tour, but she didn’t finish.[2] Afterwards, Van der Weg received an official ceremony at the municipal theater De Harmonie in Leeuwarden.

In the Amsterdam borough Amsterdam-West was a street named after here in 2016, the “Janna van der Weglaan”.[3]

Van der Weg worked as a house servant (in Dutch: dienstmeisje).
