JD.ID, legally PT Jingdong Indonesia Pertama, is e-commerce company service based in Jakarta, Indonesia. JD.ID started operating in Indonesia since October 2015.[1] At first, they focused on providing customers with electronic products and gadgets that were hard to find, such as Apple's iPad Pro and A2010 from Lenovo which were only launched at the end of 2015.[2] Since then they have expanded offering their products and entering categories such as shoes and sports apparel and also beauty and health products.

The address of the JD.ID site using the country-code top-level Indonesian domain (.id) was chosen to symbolize their commitment to provide faster and safer services.[3] According to reports, the domain name requires funds of Rp. 500,000,000 (~ US $38,000) to get.[4]

It is a unicorn, which is valued about $1 billion as of February 2020.[5] JD.ID is the sixth unicorn in Indonesia after ride-hailing company Gojek, travel service firm Traveloka, two e-commerce companies Bukalapak and Tokopedia and digital payment service OVO. JD.ID is part of JD.com.[6]

History

Zhang Li came to Indonesia in 2015 and built JD.ID. He was later appointed as president director thanks to his experience of more than 5 years as Senior Director of Merchandising JD.com, a leading e-commerce company in China before finally being assigned to Indonesia.[7]
