Industrial Scripts

Industrial Scripts (Industrial Scripts) is a screenwriting and filmmaking website, founded in 2010, operating globally.[1][2][3][4][5] It primarily provides script consultancy services, for which it employs a team of script readers. It analyses all levels of script via its script reading services, offering feedback to filmmakers.

History and Organization

The company was founded in early 2010 by former Warner Bros., Paramount Pictures and Scott Free script consultant Evan Leighton-Davis. Leighton-Davis left his job as a Development Executive at Ealing Studios and founded the company soon afterwards, with the help of other individuals working in film and TV at the time, including writer-producer Daisy Allsop[6], former Warner Bros. assistant Toby Garfath and writer Danny Stack.

Development and Changes

On the 30th January 2010 Industrial Scripts was first active in education, running a 1-day training course on script reading and how to write script coverage. Later that year it introduced its script consultancy service and other training courses in 'Making the Low Budget Feature Film' (Led by producer Ken Marshall) and 'Screenwriting for Beginners' (Led by Jon Gilbert)[7]

In 2012 the company launched a script doctoring/rewriting service and 'Talent Connector'.[8] The latter aimed to support new talent coming up through the script coverage system. The script doctoring service was led by Aaron Anderson[9] (Creative Editor on 'StreetDance 3D') and Jon Croker (Story Editor on 'The Iron Lady')[10]

From 2014-2019 the company ran online courses, partnering with Groupon to distribute its courses in North America[11], and 'Overdrive' (a membership community for filmmakers). The company publishes regular articles on screenwriting, filmmaking and Hollywood on its 'Character-Driven' blog.

The company has a series called 'The Insider Interviews', where interviews [12] with individuals currently working in the film and TV industry [13][14] can be viewed. These include actor Tom Hiddleston[15], producer Tim Bevan, producer Caryn Mandabach, writer/director, Hossein Amini, agent Duncan Heath, producer Robert Jones, BFI executive Ben Roberts, writer/director Stuart Hazeldine and others.

Partnerships

From 2012-2019 Industrial Scripts was sponsored by talent agency Curtis Brown. The sponsorship was announced in an article by ScreenDaily:

"As an agency time-management is becoming increasingly important in a crowded digital landscape we all now inhabit. As the volume of scripts and writers grows year-on-year its important to think of innovative ways of accessing and tracking new talent, and we are delighted to be backing the respected script consultants within Industrial Scripts and their Talent Connector programme, which we think will become the main access and entry point for new talent in the industry."

In 2019 Industrial Scripts partnered with the 'University of Suffolk' to deliver script coverage to their students.[17]
