Early life

Her parents divorced when she was seven.[4] Her father, being much richer than her mother, gained custody of her and her younger brother, but they did not live with their father. Instead, they lived together with his father's ex-wife and four older half-siblings on his father's side.[5] Her mother died of stomach cancer when she was 17.[6]

She started working as a part-time model in mid-July 2011.[2]

She changed her name to Cheng Chia Chun (鄭家純) in 2013.[7]

Career

  • In 2016, Ili had almost no television appearances and temporarily faded out of television shows, though she did appear on online broadcast platform Up live, in which she appeared once a week. Her sister Kang Yiting said: "She attended the event every few years, she was asked by the media and she did not matter, other artists ridicule her again to grab the limelight, it made her feel tired." Ili now appears every month. [8]

Personal life

In her interview with the Taiwan Public News Center held on 29 September 2013, she commented that when "will I be able to accept a girl who has a double decade, can be both sexy and smart, both entertainment and enthusiasm for public issues?"[9] She later said she would like to join the current affairs commentary programme Crucial Moment team, although she only graduated from a higher vocational school, but hoped to inject young women's perspective, and may be towards the development of the community.[10]

Political views

Cheng actively engages in political discussion, covering a wide range of issues such as pet adoption, public health epidemic prevention, energy policies, land levies, the national army, disobedient citizens, and water conservation laws. She has been supporting anti-nuclear movement in Taiwan since 2013.[11] She joined the Sunflower Student Movement in 2014.[12][13][14] She supports Hong Kong democracy movements.[15]
