Hutchins Center for African and African American Research

The The Hutchins Center for African & African American Research is affiliated with Harvard University. It comprises the W.E.B. Du Bois Research Institute, the Hiphop Archive and Research Institute, the Afro-Latin American Research Institute, the Image of the Black Archive & Library, the Project on Race & Gender in Science & Medicine, the History Design Studio and the Jazz Research Initiative.[1]

Dr. Henry Louis Gates Jr. is the current director of the Hutchins Center.[2]

Background

The center is named in honor of a $15 million gift from the Hutchins Family Foundation, which was endowed by Glenn Hutchins, who co-founded technology investment company Sliver Lake and earned a bachelor's degree from Harvard in 1977 and graduate degrees in law and business in 1983.[3]
