Henjunaha-Lairoulembi

Henjunaha-Lairoulembi or Henjunaha is a legendary epic love saga of Henjunaha and Lairoulembi, of Moirang Shayon legends, and the second incarnation of the Lord Nongpok Ningthou and his divine Lady Panthoibi in erstwhile ancient kingdom of Moirang.

The saga accounts for the love between Henjunaha, a hero in Manipuri mythology and Lairoulembi, an innocent lady, who were in love affair with each other. However, fate predicts their departure with the murder of Henjunaha by the evils and suicide of Lairoulembi after the knowledge of her beloved's death.[1] [2] [3]

  • In 2015, four books based on folktales from Manipur, including one of Henjunaha, were published in Imphal.[4]
  • In 2017, at Lamboikhongnangkhong, Imphal, a show Henjunaha was shown, which drew great public responses.[5][6]
  • The book Henjunaha Lairoulembi, was published in Hindi Sahitya Parishad, Imphal.[7]
