History

Prior to the construction of the civic centre Harrow did not have purpose-built municipal offices.[1] The new building was designed by Eric G. Broughton, built by F.G. Minter and opened as Harrow Civic Centre in May 1973.[1][2] The building, which is a square concrete structure with a courtyard at the centre, was established as the headquarters of the London Borough of Harrow.[1]

In October 2014, as part of its regeneration strategy, the council announced proposals to move its headquarters to a more modern facility in Wealdstone and to release the civic centre site for residential use.[3] However, in March 2019, it indicated that there would be delays[4] and, in July 2019, the council decided to find a regeneration partner to help to expedite the development.[5]
