Gohar
Gohar or Gauhar or Gawhar, possibly from the Persian gōhar (گُوهَر) meaning "gem, jewel" or "essence, substance". The Arabic adopted the word by trade from the Gulf Region with the spelling "jawhar" (Arabic: جَِوهَر; plural "jawāhar" جَوَاهَر) or other spelling like "jauhar", since the Persian letter "gāf" گ is not used in Modern Standard Arabic but replaced with the letter "jīm" ج in Arabic. However, the Arabic plural "jawāhar" جَوَاهَر is used in Persian (but with the spelling "javaher" meaning "jewel, precious stone, gemstone", which is used as named in Persian or Indo-Persian name Javaher or surname Javaheri.
Also in Western Armenian, Kohar is a given name and a surname.
Not to be confused to the Hindu "Jauhar", the act of mass self-immolation by women in parts of the Indian subcontinent, to avoid capture, enslavement and rape by foreign invaders, when facing certain defeat during a war.
