In 2009, the National Policy Framework for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET),[3] was created to address the technological and human resource needs. Special emphasis was placed on providing equal opportunity for all Guyanese to access technical education and training, regardless of sex or gender. In mid–2011, the Guyanese Education Ministry completed the TVET Enhancement Project with financing from the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB).[4] Gemsville Technical University was established as a result of this initiative.
