GLORAD

GLORAD is a research center and think tank for global R&D management and reverse innovation, located at Tongji University, P.R. China and the Institute of Technology Management at the University of St. Gallen,[1] Switzerland. GLORAD establishes a research network between those two institutions as well as other participating research organizations and scientists worldwide. GLORAD also operates as a "Think-Tank for Reverse Innovation," identifying, describing, and contextualizing patterns of global innovation from and to emerging countries. The center's mission is to advance progress in science and management in the areas of international R&D management, global technology, and transnational innovation, focusing on R&D and innovation in China, transnational R&D management and organization, global innovation, incubation, and technology-based entrepreneurship.[2]

GLORAD was founded in 2003 by Max von Zedtwitz at Tsinghua University in Beijing, expanded to the University of St. Gallen in 2004, and moved its China office to Tongji University in 2008. GLORAD is directed by professors of each hosting university. Its activities are reviewed and supervised by a research advisory board. The GLORAD research team consists of approximately twelve doctoral students and postdocs. A growing number of GLORAD alumni have joined other universities as faculty members, industrial firms as R&D managers, or consulting companies. GLORAD also maintains one of the largest databases of global R&D locations,[3] an up-to-date list of technology and innovation management journals, and two active LinkedIn groups on Global R&D and Innovation in China. GLORAD collaborates with the Center for Global Innovation at Technical University of Hamburg, the LINK Research Center at Grenoble school of management, and George Washington University.
