Dexter Dalwood

Dexter Dalwood (born 1960, Bristol, England) is a British artist based in London, England.

Biography

Dalwood attended Humphry Davy School in his early life. then from 1981 he attended Saint Martin's School of Art in London;[1] he received his BA in 1985. He studied for his MA at the Royal College of Art, London, from 1988-1990. Before becoming an artist he was a member of the punk rock band The Cortinas.

He is currently a Research Professor of Fine Art at Bath Spa University.[2] Dalwood is also an Artist Trustee[3] for the National Gallery and served as the Liaison Trustee[4] on Tate’s Board between 2017-2019. He was nominated for the Turner Prize[5] in 2010 for his mid- career retrospective at Tate St Ives, Cornwall.

He has shown work internationally in exhibitions including the 19th John Moore’s Painting Prize at the Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool (1995), “Die Young Stay Pretty” at the ICA London (1998), “New Neurotic Realism” at the Saatchi Gallery in London (1999), “Remix” at Tate Liverpool (2002), the 2002 Sydney Biennial, “Hollywood is a Verb” at Gagosian Gallery in London (2003) and "Fighting History” at Tate Britain (2015).

He is also a contributor to The Burlington Magazine.
