The 1st XI league consists of a Premier division of 10 teams, and 14 feeder divisions lettered A-H, regionalised to East and West in the C-H divisions.[2]

Prior to the 2013 season, it was possible to obtain a draw in a game if the side batting second was not bowled out, but since then each innings in a match is limited to a number of overs (which varies depending on the division) and the team with the higher total from their allotted overs wins.

The Premier Division teams for 2020 were intended to be: Bovey Tracey, Cornwood, Exeter, Exmouth, Hatherleigh, Heathcoat, Paignton, Plymouth, Sandford, and Sidmouth. The 2020 competition was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. A replacement competition was organised for the later part of the season when cricket again became possible, but with the winners not to be regarded as official league champions.
