History
Deutsches Sportecho was first published on 5 May 1947.[1] The paper had a circulation of 185,000 copies.[2] In 1989, the paper sponsored the association football competition DFV-Supercup (Pokal des Deutschen Sportechos).[3]
It was acquired by West German publisher Axel Springer in 1990.[4] The paper's circulation rapidly declined after the German reunification.[2] By 1991, the Deutsches Sportecho's circulation had fallen to 34,000 copies,[5] and it subsequently ceased publication on 3 April 1991.[6]
