Daljit Singh Shergill

Daljit Singh Shergill (died 6 October 2014), known as Shergill Sahib, was a Sikh leader from Punjab, India, who was president of the first gurdwara in the UK.[1] He immigrated to the West Midlands in the early 1960s.[2] He became president of Smethwick Gurdwara in 1984.[3][4]

He died in Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham on 6 October 2014, age 70.[2]

His daughter Preet Gill later became Britain's first female Sikh MP, and as of 2020 serves as the shadow Secretary of State for International Development.
