Halsey's debut studio album, Badlands (2015), debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 115,000 sales in its first week of release. It also charted in the top ten of Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom, and several other countries. Badlands has sold 626,000 copies in the United States and has been certified double platinum by the RIAA; it sold 106,804 copies and was certified Gold in the UK. The album was preceded by the release of two singles: "Ghost", which has been certified Platinum in the US and Gold in Australia, and "New Americana", which achieved minor chart success; it peaked at number 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top forty in Czech Republic, Italy, and Slovakia. It has been certified Platinum in Canada, Italy, and the US and Gold in Australia and New Zealand. The album’s third single, "Colors", was released in 2016 and while it did not enter the Billboard Hot 100, it did peak at number eight on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 chart and became the album’s most popular track on Spotify. It has been certified double Platinum in the US, Platinum in Australia, and Silver in the UK. The album's fourth single, "Castle", was rerecorded for the soundtrack of the 2016 film The Huntsman: Winter's War and has been certified Platinum in the US and Gold in Australia. The album was preceded by the release of the promotional single, “Hold Me Down”, released along with the album pre-order; it has been certified Gold in Australia and the US. Notably, "Gasoline" was not released as a single and was only included on the deluxe version of Badlands, but became one of the album’s most streamed tracks on Spotify with over 200 million streams; it was certified Gold in Australia and Platinum in the US.

In 2016, Halsey found extreme success as a featured vocalist on "Closer", a collaboration with The Chainsmokers. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 12 consecutive weeks, topped the charts of over 20 other countries, and sold more than 15 million units worldwide. It is one of the most-streamed songs on Spotify, and earned Halsey a Grammy Award nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.

Halsey's second studio album, Hopeless Fountain Kingdom (2017), debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 with 106,000 sales in its first week of release, becoming the first number one album by a female artist that year. It also debuted at number one in Canada and reached the top ten in Australia, Ireland, and New Zealand. Hopeless Fountain Kingdom has sold 251,000 copies in the US and has been certified Platinum in Canada and the US, and Silver in the UK. Its lead single, "Now or Never", peaked at number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top forty in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. It has been certified double Platinum in Australia and the US, platinum in Canada, Gold in Italy and New Zealand, and Silver in the UK. It has sold 500,000 units outside of the country. The song was released as an instant gratification with the album's pre-order. The second single, "Bad at Love", peaked at number five on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming her first top five single as a lead artist. It has been certified quintuple Platinum in the US, triple platinum in Canada, and Platinum in Australia. The third single, "Alone", only peaked at number 66 on the Billboard Hot 100, but reached number one on Billboard's Dance Club chart. It has been certified Platinum in Canada and the US. The album was preceded by two promotional singles: "Eyes Closed", which peaked at number one on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 and has been certified Gold in the US, and "Strangers", which peaked at number 100 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has also been certified Gold in the US. While “Sorry” was never released as an official single, it became one of the most popular tracks on the album accumulating over 150 million streams on Spotify; it has also been certified Gold in the US.

In late 2017, Halsey also collaborated with G-Eazy for the song "Him & I", which reached the top ten of Canada and Germany and peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100. It has since been certified triple Platinum in Canada, double Platinum in Australia and the US, Platinum in Sweden, and Gold in Belgian, Italy, and New Zealand.

In July 2018, Halsey sang with Khalid on Benny Blanco's debut single "Eastside", which topped the charts of five countries and peaked at number nine on the Billboard Hot 100. It went on to spend over a year charting on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Halsey’s second song to achieve this. It has sold over three million units worldwide.

In early 2019, Halsey collaborated with English singer, and at the time boyfriend, Yungblud on the song, “11 Minutes”, featuring Blink-182 drummer, Travis Barker. The song peaked at number 59 in the UK and number one on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. It has been certified Platinum in Australia and Gold in Canada and the US. It has also garnered over 100 million streams on Spotify, being one of Yungblud’s most streamed tracks on the platform.

In April 2019, Halsey collaborated with Korean boy band, BTS on the song, "Boy With Luv". The music video went on to become the most viewed online music video in 24 hours, garnering 74.6 million views in its first day of release. The song debuted and peaked at number eight on the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached the top ten in Australia and Canada. It has been certified Platinum in the US.

In May 2019, Halsey released the single, “Nightmare”. Originally intended to be the lead single for her third album, she ended up taking a different direction for the record instead. It debuted and peaked at number 15 on the Billboard Hot 100 and also reached the top 20 in Australia, Canada, and New Zealand. The song has been certified Platinum in Australia, Canada, and the US.

Halsey's third studio album, Manic (2020), debuted at number two on the Billboard 200 with 239,000 sales in its first week of release, making it her biggest album debut of her career. It also reached the top ten in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. Its lead single, "Without Me", became one of her biggest songs since "Closer" in 2016. It reached the top three of several countries, including Australia, Canada and the UK, and peaked at number one on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her first number one as a lead artist. It has been certified septuple Platinum in Australia and Canada, sextuple Platinum in the US, double Platinum in New Zealand, Platinum in Italy, Sweden, and the UK, and Gold in Belgian. The second single, "Graveyard", peaked at number 34 on the Billboard Hot 100 and reached the top forty in Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, and the UK. It has been certified Platinum in Australia and Canada, and Gold in the US. It was released along with the album's pre-order. The third single, “You Should Be Sad”, peaked at number 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and charted in several countries including Australia, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Sweden, and the UK. It has been certified Silver in the UK, Gold in New Zealand and the US, and Platinum in Australia and Canada. The album was preceded by three promotional singles: “Clementine”, “Finally // Beautiful Stranger”, which peaked and number 17 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100, and “Suga’s Interlude”, which peaked at number nine on the US Pop Digital Song Sales chart.
