Charlie Talbert

Charlie Talbert (born 13 December 1978) is an American actor whose most prominent role was that of the titular Angus Bethune in the 1995 film Angus. Surrounding the film's release, his discovery by the film's director, Patrick Read Johnson became a story in its own right due to its echoing of classic Hollywood tales about an unknown person being thrust into celebrity following a chance encounter with a producer or director.[1] Despite a hiatus from acting following 2006's Art School Confidential,[2] Talbert continues to act.

Discovery

Returning home to Kenosha, Wisconsin from Chicago around midnight in August of 1994, 15 year-old Talbert stopped at a Wendy's in Lake Forest, Illinois. While telling jokes in line, Talbert caught the interest of Patrick Read Johnson who approached and invited him to audition for the lead role of his next film. Initially incredulous, Talbert ultimately accepted the offer.[3] Despite Talbert's unfamiliarity with film industry jargon and practices, his limited acting experience to that point,[4] and despite the director's having spent years trying to find the right person for the role,[5] Talbert impressed enough that he was invited to audition for the film's producers in person in Hollywood. He won the lead role and returned for two weeks of acting lessons and filming shortly thereafter.[1]
