Catherine L. Ross

Catherine L. Ross is an African-American educator and a practitioner in transportation. She is a Georgia Institute of Technology Regents Professor and Harry West Chaired Professor in City and Regional Planning.[1] She is also a member of the National Academy of Public Administration (NAPA).[2]

Biography

Ross earned bachelor’s degrees from Kent State University, a Master’s Degree, and a Doctorate in City and Regional Planning from Cornell University. She completed post-doctorate work at the University of California, Berkeley.[3][4]

Ross was CEO of Catherine Ross and Associates Inc. In July 2009, she was an advisor to the Obama Administration on the creation of the White House Office of Urban Affairs.[5]

Ross was a member of the Executive Committee of the National Academy of Sciences, Transportation Research Board, and on the board of the Eno Foundation and the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority.[6] She was a Senior Policy Advisor for the Transportation Research Board of the National Academy of Sciences and was President of the National Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.[7]

She is currently director of Georgia Institute of Technology’s Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development and was Deputy Director of the National Center for Transportation System Productivity and Management.[8]

Ross is the editor of Megaregions: Planning for Global Competitiveness (2009) and co-author of The Inner City: Urban Poverty and Economic Development in the Next Century (1997).[9] She is author of Health Impact Assessment in the United States (2014)[10]

Personal life

Ross is married to Dr. Thomas Boston. They have two children.[11]
