Early life

Alex Petit was born in south of France on May 19, 1995.[3] He started making "type beats", which is production in the style of certain popular artists, and posted them on YouTube, where he eventually gained a following.[4]

Career

Petit has produced beats for artists such as Roddy Ricch, Lil Skies, Gucci Mane, and more. He started to gain mainstream attraction after he produced Lil Skies' song "Nowadays", which peaked at number 55 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Other ventures

Petit founded the record label and production collective Cash Gang in early 2020. Its roster includes record producers Alecto, Daniel Moras, Kai, Layz, Luci G, Palaze, Relly Made, Santo, Tig, Weird Mahdi, YoungKio and YoungNef.[5] It is a subsidiary of the record label Petit is signed to, Victor Victor Worldwide.[6]

Controversy

In July 2020, the late American rapper Pop Smoke released his debut album Shoot for the Stars, Aim for the Moon. Petit had production on the songs "For the Night" and "Gangstas".[7][8] The former song's melody is a recreation of an original composition by Swiss record producer Wylo. According to Wylo, Petit, who wanted to sign him, stole the beat from Wylo. Wylo stated: "CashMoneyAP let one of his producers remake the sample to try to not credit and pay me". Wylo's lawyers eventually stepped in and he was credited on the song.[9] Wylo went on to post to original composition on his Instagram profile.[9]
