Early life

Blumer was born and raised in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.[2] When he was 15 years old, he developed a website to sell virtual assets in the multiplayer online gaming space. His website, known as Gamecliff (stylized as GaMeCliff),[3] displayed different characters, weapons, and houses for MMORPG games including EverQuest and World of Warcraft.[1]

Career

In 2005, Blumer's Gamecliff was acquired by IGE[4] and the company moved to its new headquarters in Hong Kong to head Gamecliff's operations.[1] Blumer founded The Accounts Network in 2007, a company that sold in-game MMORPG avatars and reached $1 million in revenue figures.[1][5]

In 2010, Blumer launched Okay.com, an enterprise data sharing platform for real estate brokers in Asia.[1] The company later merged with the real estate company Asia Pacific Properties.[6] His next business project, ii5, also focused on real estate. Founded in 2013, startup was dedicated to real estate listings in India.[2]

In 2016, Brendan Blumer met software programmer Daniel Larimer.[1] In March 2017, they formed Block. One, an open source software publishing company specializing in high performance blockchain technologies.[2] In May 2017, Blumer and Larimer announced their first project, EOS.IO.[7] Critics have argued that Block.one's year long EOS initial coin offering (ICO) is unnecessarily aggressive in the amount of funds that it is seeking to raise for such a product.[2]

In February 2018, he was recognized by Forbes as one of "The Richest People In Cryptocurrency".[8]

On June 1, 2019, he announced Voice [9] to the world in the Block. One Washington event, the B1 June. Voice is a decentralized social media developed by Block. One and it is currently preparing to launch its worldwide beta version, scheduled for August 15, 2020[10].
