Bhuvnesh Chaturvedi

Bhuvnesh Chaturvedi (Hindi: भुवनेश चतुर्वेदी ; 2 May 1928 – 2 March 2014) was an Indian politician who was a Minister of State and Union minister in the Prime Minister's Office during Narsimha Rao's tenure. He was unmarried. On 2 March 2014 he died in a private hospital at Kota, Rajasthan at the age of 85.

Born in May 1928 in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, he was educated at Herbers College, Kota. An advocate and journalist by profession, Shri Chaturvedi was actively involved in student and youth movements, he was President of NSUI during 1953-56.

He started his legislative career with the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly, where he was member from 1972 to 1977. He represented Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha for three terms, from 1982 to 2000. He was Union Minister of State for the Prime Minister's Office from February 1993 to May 1996 and Minister for Science and Technology from December 1993 to May 1996. He was also the Director of Bank of Baroda.

He believed in promoting the National Language and he started two well known schools Bal Madhyamik and Bal Mandir at Kota. He had vision uncomparable to others and the main motto of the schools established by him was "Rashtra Sarvopari - Nation First". He was a true leader and went on to build a Science Museum at Bal Madhyamik Kota which was inaugurated by Late and Honourable President A.P.J Abdul Kalam. The school is having very good sports facilities for the overall development of the students. He also contributed for the development of crematorium at Kota. He went on progressing and entered into Indian Politics after contesting Presidential elections of Student Union of Government College Kota. He lost the first election to Satyaprakash Sharma in 1952-53 but won the second in 1953-54. He admired Dr. Krishna Menon who was India's Representative at the United Nations and called him as the Chief Guest for a function and started a memorial lecture series later on at Bal Madhyamik Kota, where eminent personalities like Mr. P.V Narsimha Rao expressed his views about the life and achievements of Dr. Menon. He was sent to Russia by Dr. Menon for accompanying the student representatives representing India and the foundation was laid for his entry into politics.

He was a man of wisdom and extremely down to earth and used to wash the food utensils by his own hand after eating food and same was true for his clothes which he washed by his own hands. He was a vegetarian and always used to keep bread and snacks along with him on foreign visits. He was very active till his last few days and used to go to the Court Daily for discussions with old lawyers.

One of his friends, Mr. Harikumar Audichya, told that his friendship was 60 years old with Mr. Bhuvanesh Chaturvedi who lost to him in class student representative elections. He praised his friend for his clean image during his entire political career, simple lifestyle, high values and principles and for being a straightforward speaker. He mentioned the stress handling capacity of Mr. Bhuvanesh Chaturvedi and said no political differences could actually disturb him and that his working style will be an unforgettable memory for him.

He nurtured his relationships well and this was prominent from the fact that usually politicians do not have friends in opposite party but he had a valuable relationship with Honourable Ex- Prime Minister Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the late Mr. Bhairo SIngh Shekhawat, ex-Prime Minister Mr. Manmohan Singh and present Chief Minister of Rajasthan Mrs. Vasundhara Raje Sindhia. Whenever he called them and requested to be present in functions related to Bal Madhyamik School or family functions nobody refused and were present taking out some time from their busy schedule.

He was very close to ex Prime Minister P.V Narsimha Rao and being a State Minister in the Prime Minister's Office he supported the PM in the execution of tasks and decisions relevant to Nuclear Power, Science and Technology Department, Jammu Kashmir matters relevant to election.

In February 2017, a trust was formed in his name which is called "The Bhuvnesh Chaturvedi Trust". The trust was formed by Mrs. Mukta Chaturvedi Sharma and Dr. Prashant Sharma. The members of the trust are also from Chaturvedi Family. The first initiative of the trust was the memorial lecture organised at Bal Mandir Kota on 2 March 2017. The topic of the memorial lecture was "Indo US Ties under the Trump Presidency" and the speakers were Dr. Amna Mirza and Dr. Chayanika Uniyal Panda. Both of them are Asst. Professors in colleges affiliated to Delhi University.

On 24 February his statue was unveiled at Bhuvanesh Bal Mandir after the instructions given by Honourable Mr.Manmohan Singh Ji through teleconference .This was a unique kind of unveiling ceremony as instructions were given by Honourable Mr.Manmohan Singh .Dr.Rashmi Chaturvedi, Mrs.Mukta Chaturvedi Sharma and Mr. Vineet Chaturvedi went to the residence of Honourable Mr.Manmohan Singh Ji and a book titled as " Hadoti Kshetra Ke Kshailchitra " written by Dr.Renu Chaturvedi in the fond and inspirational memory of Mr.Bhuvanesh Chaturvedi was released by him .

Dr.Rashmi Chaturvedi said " शख्श नहीं था वो एक , मुकामाल बायान था ,ज़िसकी हर सांस एक जुनुन हर लम्हा मुकाम था " . thumb [1][2][3]
