Beau McCoy

Beau McCoy (born November 12, 1980, in Burlington, Colorado) is an American politician from Omaha, Nebraska. He was a member of the unicameral Nebraska Legislature and ran unsuccessfully for Governor of Nebraska in 2014.

State legislature

McCoy was elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012 to represent the 39th legislative district. He previously served on the Natural Resources Committee, Transportation and Telecommunications Committee, and Revenue Committee. He was the Vice Chairperson of the Banking, Commerce and Insurance Committee and the Chairperson of Committee on Committees.

McCoy was Vice Chair of the Council of State Governments and was a member of the Council of State Governments Governing Board, Executive Committee, Federalism Taskforce, Leadership Council, 21st Century Foundation, Associates Advisory Committee, Finance Committee, National Conference Committee, International Committee, Interbranch Affairs Committee, and Co-Chair of the Intergovernmental Affairs Committee. He is the Chair for the Midwestern Council of State Governments and is a member of the Executive Committee, Economic Development Committee and the Innovations Selections Committee.

Positions

McCoy identifies himself as pro-life. According to McCoy, he "support[s] our Second Amendment rights", believes in the death penalty, and opposes "in-state tuition benefits for illegal aliens."[1]

Personal life

McCoy has been active in the Republican Party since his teens. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Leadership, Summa cum Laude, from Bellevue University, where he was the national committeeman for the Nebraska Federation of Young Republicans. Before being in the Nebraska State Legislature, he was a home improvement contractor.
