Beaches of Durban

Ethekwini (greater Durban) has a wide variety of beaches divided into three regions along the Indian Ocean coastline.[1][2]

  • South Coast is the coastline running from Isipingo in the north to Clansthal in the south
  • Central is the coastline surrounding the city of Durban
  • North Coast is the coastline running from La Lucia in the south to Westbrook in the north

South Coast

The South Coast is a long sandy stretch of coast from the south of the Bluff in Isipingo to Clansthal. This is known as an area famous for surfing, scuba diving and deep sea fishing as well as its popular resort towns such as Amanzimtoti, Kingsburgh and Umkomaas.[3]

The North Coast is a long stretch of Coast stretching from La Lucia, Umhlanga in the south to Westbrook in the north. Like most of KwaZulu-Natal's coastline, the North Coast also includes resort towns and also includes popular resort towns such as Umhlanga (core hub of the region) and Umdloti.[4]
