Basant (film)

Basant (translation: Spring) is a 1942 Indian film, directed by Amiya Chakrabarty. The film starred Mumtaz Shanti, Ulhas and Madhubala (as a child artist). It was the highest-grossing film of 1942.[1][2]

Basant marked the debut of Mumtaz Shanti, who was already a celebrated star in Punjabi film industry.[3] However, the film is best remembered as the first film of Madhubala, who played daughter to Shanti.[4] Madhubala went on to become one of the most beautiful and iconic actresses of Bollywood.
