Baidyanath Misra

Baidyanath Misra was an Indian economist, educationist and administrator from the state of Odisha.[1][2][3][4]He served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology,[5][6] Chairman of Odisha State Planning Board,[7] Chairman of Odisha's First State Finance Commission,[8] founder and President of Odisha Economics Association,[9] and founder Director and Chairman of NKC Centre for Development and Research.[10][11][12] He has written 16 books in English, 20 in Odia . He was also a columnist in several leading Odia journals .

Education

He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Ravenshaw College, followed by a Master of Arts degree from the University of Allahabad, he completed another master's degree in economics from Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania on a Fulbright Scholarship.[13] After returning to India, he did a PhD from Utkal University.[14]

Career

Having started his career as a lecturer in Ravenshaw College,[5] he moved to Utkal University as a professor, and later served as the Vice-Chancellor of the Odisha University of Agriculture and Technology from 1981 to 1985.[15][16] He headed the Odisha State Planning Board from 1985 to 1990.[17][18]

Recognition

He received an honorary doctorate from the KIIT University.[19] The Chief Minister of Odisha conferred him with the Think Odisha Leadership Award, jointly with the Director of IIT Kharagpur, Damodar Acharya, for their contribution in the field of education.[20] He was also awarded the Odisha Sahitya Academy Award for his contributions to Odia literature.[21][22]
