Abel Tapia

Abel J. Tapia is a longtime serving Democratic politician from Pueblo, Colorado. He has held several prominent positions in the Pueblo community, including serving as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003,[2] and the Colorado Senate, representing the 3rd District, from 2003 to 2010. Tapia left the Senate when he was appointed director of the Colorado lottery.[2] Prior to his time in the General Assembly, Tapia served as elected member of the District-60 school board and as the President of the Pueblo Greater Chamber of Commerce.

On March 28, 2014 Tapia announced he was launching a campaign for the Colorado's 3rd congressional district of the United States House of Representatives.[3] He was defeated by republican incumbent Scott Tipton.[4]

Abel Tapia is currently running for Pueblo County Commissioner in District 2 on a platform which involves spending $100,000,000 in already-approved funds on COVID-19 economy recovery, improving Pueblo's existing jail, and helping small businesses continue to grow.[5] Abel Tapia has received significant labor union support due to his strong labor policies.[6]
