Let's be using your typical centaur: half man, half horse. Due to the nature of their legs, they can't ride animals in the way that humans do. Horse legs just aren't really made to do that.
My question is, what kind of animal could I use or create for them to be able to ride, and how would they mount and ride it?
It has to be at least semi-comfortable for the taurs, and be able to carry a heavy load over long distances.
EDIT: The technology in this world is pretty much dark ages technology.

1: They need to travel long distances without getting too tired 2: Yep! – AzaleaGarden – 2018-11-23T14:59:03.417
1So speed isn’t the issue, laziness is? – Joe Bloggs – 2018-11-23T15:01:26.170
8@AzaleaGarden What animal on earth has a better ability to travel long distances without getting tired than a horse? They are literally designed for that, they are the temperate world's champion long-distance migrator. This doesn't make any sense. – kingledion – 2018-11-23T15:01:39.037
For the most part, yea, but speed is a factor as well. – AzaleaGarden – 2018-11-23T15:01:49.020
1Why wouldn't they build carts to stand/sit in that could be drawn by animals? Or travel by boat? – Elmy – 2018-11-23T15:03:21.130
@kingledion In a small way, this is just a cool factor. But otherwise, the centaurs in my world are suffering from a nutritional deficiency, which makes traveling long distances difficult. However, being nomadic, they need to be able to travel from place to place. – AzaleaGarden – 2018-11-23T15:03:38.980
@Elmy Boat is not an option due to the geography of the world, and I honestly hadn't thought about carts. – AzaleaGarden – 2018-11-23T15:04:19.947
1If speed is important too then I’ve got to agree with Kingledion: your centaurs will be able to go further faster than any other animal, even including breaks. If they’re just plain lazy for some reason (‘I am the king! My hooves shall not touch the ground’) then Ive got some ideas you might not like. – Joe Bloggs – 2018-11-23T15:04:22.220
Worth hearing them anyways – AzaleaGarden – 2018-11-23T15:04:45.593
What kind of transport humans have used depends on precisely what they''re trying to achieve, in what terrain and in what weather conditions not to mention range. Centaur society would presumably be just as diverse. Centaurs don't need to sit - horse legs are designed to stand with practically zero energy cost. So they'll stand on a platform and require only e.g. support for balance. What kind of animal - up to your imagination. – StephenG – 2018-11-23T15:21:35.487
4@kingledion Actually horses would stop walking when tired. Humans are the only animals that are so stubborn that they will continue to walk even when tired, blisters on foot and not feed. – SZCZERZO KŁY – 2018-11-23T15:39:58.363
4Humans can run for hours without tiring, your lazy centaurs can just ride humans. – None – 2018-11-23T16:22:38.970
elephants, whales, that sort of thing. they just have to jump on them, and then hold on. piece of cake. – theRiley – 2018-11-23T17:37:34.250
1Human is the most stubborn long distance runner/walker. Combine with sheer stamina and 4 leg of a horse, Centaur already the best creature to cover long distance mobility without any question on their endurance and stamina. You may need a biological 4x4 or a chimaera of a tank/human to top that on land based transport. – Hariz Rizki – 2018-11-24T05:30:05.120
1@AzaleaGarden The first bicycles were just wheels on a frame, and people used their feet to push them. Maybe your centaurs can do the same, a set of wheels under their belly to support their weight. If your centaurs are suffering from a nutritional deficiency, breeding animals looks too costly. – Alberto Yagos – 2018-11-24T09:43:47.823
