Yei

Yei is a city in the Equatoria region of South Sudan.

WARNING: Yei is an extremely dangerous city. If you must go, hire an armed guard and ensure you're well-protected.

Understand

Strategically located near the borders with Democratic Republic of the Congo and Uganda, Yei is a business hub, attracting many traders. Roads are being re-built and the newly re-opened airport ensures the steady flow of goods. However, activities are hampered by the ongoing conflict with the Lord's Resistance Army. A curfew is in place during nights and the neighboring countryside is still prone to violence.

Get in

The small Yei Airport is served by regular flights from Entebbe International Airport. These commercial flights are operated by EagleAir Uganda. NGO and Missionary personnel are also served by the Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). Charter services may also be available from Kampala.

The road from Kaya at the Ugandan border has been repaired, reducing travel time to about two to three hours. However, many other roads are in bad shape.
