Tully

Tully is a town in Cardwell Shire, Queensland, Australia. It is famous for being the wettest town in Australia, garnering an average rainfall of 4000mm. Occasionally, the title is contested by the nearby town of Babinda. The town also boasts one of the largest number of UFO sightings in Queensland.

Get in

Greyhound buses or the Brisbane - Cairns Train. By road, Tully is 140km south of Cairns and north of Townsville, adjacent to the Bruce Highway.

Get around

Most things can be accessed by foot. There is no public transport.

See

  • The 7.9m tall Golden Gumboot, which stands just outside of the main street. Built in 2003 by the Tully Lions and Rotary Clubs, the monument commemorates the towns 1950 rainfall level (7900mm), the Australian record. It operates as a museum, documenting past floods, as well as displaying the current rainfall for the year.

Also of interest are buildings of 1930s architecture which still today. A Sugar Mill runs tours.
