Tremezzo

Tremezzo is a village on Lake Como in Italy. It is on the western shore of the lake, just inside in the southwestern arm of the lake. Since May 2014 it has been part of the new municipality of Tremezzina, which also incorporates Lenno, Mezzegra and Ossuccio.

Get in

The Western Highway around the lake passes through the village.

There are several ferry services:

  • mid-lake services that range as far as Menaggio, Varenna, Bellagio and Lenno
  • services that run the length of the lake between Como and Colico – some are fast services that travel faster, stop at fewer places and cost more
  • a car ferry service between Bellagio and Cadenabbia (which is about 10 minutes' walk from Tremezzo)

There are a lot of daily bus connection operated by ASF Autolinee to Como - route C10 ( )

Get around

The village is essentially a strip along the lakefront with a few small, narrow paths leading up the hill. Roads lead to the hillside villages immediately to the west.

See

  • 🌍 Villa Carlotta, Via Regina, 2. Late Mar – mid Oct 9am-7:30pm (last ticket 6pm, museum closes 6:30pm); mid–late Mar & mid-Oct – early Nov 10am–6pm (last ticket 5pm, museum closes 5:30pm). Museum and a big well cared garden. €9.
  • 🌍 Villa del Balbianello, Via Comoedia 5, Lenno, +39 0344 56110, e-mail: . Mid-Mar – late Nov, Tu, Th–Su 10am–6pm. Villa and gardens on the end of the small Dosso di Lavedo (Dosso d'Avedo) peninsula southeast of Lenno town. Its last private owner was Guido Monzino, a mountaineer and explorer, who filled the villa with his artefacts and memorabilia, and bequeathed it to the Fondo per l'Ambiente Italiano (FAI), the national trust of Italy. You can take yourself around the gardens, and go through the villa on a one-hour guided tour, which is well worth it. There are tours in English as well as Italian – if you arrive just after an English tour has started, you might have to wait an hour or so for the next one. To get there, if arriving at Lenno on the ferry, turn left and walk 800 m around the bay to Lido di Lenno, where you can take a taxi boat (€7 return, €5 one way) around to the villa. On Tu, Sa, Su you have the option of walking either of two paths from the Lido over the wooded peninsula to the villa – the lush forest is a nice contrast to the manicured gardens of the villa. There is a 20 minute, 1 km walk with a couple of steep climbs or descents around the eastern edge of the peninsula, or a more strenuous 45 minute, 2 km trail over the top of the hill. If you'd like to take the boat one way and walk the other, some people recommend taking the boat to get there, because the villa looks impressive as you arrive by boat, and if you later depart from the top of the garden, you've already done some of the uphill walking. Famous from a scene in Star Wars: Episode II. Garden & villa tour without booking €15, booked tour €11, garden only €8; reduced prices for members of FAI and the English National Trust.

Do

There is an unmarked public park with steps to the lake where you can swim. The water is clean and very deep from the main steps. At the side is a shallow pebble beach from which children can access the water.

Tremezzo has a post office, a small delicatessen and the usual array of places of tourist interest.

Lenno has a street market every Tuesday morning along the lakefront.

There are a number of hotel restaurants, many of which have outdoor eating areas right next to the lake. There is also a hill trattoria, well signposted, off the main road.

There are a number of hotels of 3 and 4 star standard. Prices fair for this area.
