Toktogul
Toktogul is a small city in the Northwest of Kyrgyzstan with a population of about 16,000.
Understand
As it is en route on the highway between Osh and Bishkek is makes for a good stop over when traveling between these cities.
Beside that, the nature surrounding Toktogul can be a great reward.

By bus
Regular marshrutkas leave from Bishkek's Western Bus Station at 08:15, 10:50, 13:30 and 16:15, for 265 som.
By 4WD
From Kyzyl-Oy you can organise a 4WD to Toktogul. Hitching a ride instead might also be possible.
Get around
The city is walkable.
See
- 🌍 Toktogul Reservoir. Worth a visit when having a night over here.
Do
- Horseback riding. A 3-days horseback adventure seems popular with tourists here. Ask around or at you accommodation to find tour guides.

There is a small bazaar in the middle of the city.

- Kyzyl-Oy – A village popular with foreign tourists, has beautiful orange mountains around it and a mountain valley for hiking and yurt stay. Also gateway to the eastern regions of Kyrgyzstan.
- Talas – A far off town with the popular Manar Ordo pilgrimage complex nearby.
- Sary-Chelek Nature Reserve – One of the highlights of Kyrgyzstan with a beautiful lake, excellent hiking, diverse flora and fauna, picturesque mountains and much more. On the way between Toktogul and Jalal-Abad.
- Jalal-Abad – A good bet for visiting an authentic Ferghana Valley town, and significantly safer and easier to get to than Osh or destinations further southwest.
