Tlemcen is a city in Northwest Algeria, and the capital of the province of the same name.

Close to the Moroccan border, the city has developed leather, carpet, and textile industries, which it ships to the port of Rashgun for export. It had a population of 140,158 at the 2008 census, while the province had 949,135 inhabitants.

  • 🌍 El Mechouar Palace. This royal palace was built in 1248 to serve as the official residence for the Ziyanid sultans. Its complex is a perfect representation of Moorish and Andalusian art.
  • 🌍 Sidi Boumediene Mosque. Known as the Worshipper's Mosque, this complex contains several religious buildings, including a mosque, a mausoleum, a hamam, and a madrasa where Ibn Khaldun taught once.
